Reason for learning Japanese
Hello again. Here is a brief explanation of why I am trying to learn Japanese in Okamoto Sensei's entertaining and inspirational class. My primary academic interest is Korean modern literature and cinema. But these days, I sense there is a "transnational turn" going beyond the national-bounded study. I think the Japanese cinema and literature has crucially interacted with Korean lit and cinemas. Not only to appreciate a crucial impact on my academic area but also to extend academic knowledge beyond the national and territorial boundary, I am willing to learn Japanese.
Above reason is more professional-wise. But here is my personal reason. I was showered by Japanese popular culture during my teenage period. I read and watched so many animes, mangas, and Japanese modern fictions, which made a huge impact on me. I could understand most of colloquial Japanese back then. But now, I feel more sincere and serious about learning Japanese for I almost forgot most of it.
My hometown is Busan, which locates in the southern part of South Korea. It is very close to travel to Japan. Before I went to college in Seoul, I traveled to Japan frequently. I truly enjoyed food, souvenirs, and everything. I went to Tokyo, Kyoto, Fukuoka, and Osaka. Most of Kansai regions were easier for me to travel but one of the most wonderful place among Japan was Hokkaido. I loved seafood, dairies, sweets, and even agricultural products like potatoes. I remembered Obihiro very clearly since it was the setting for famous Iwai Shunji's movie, Love

Wow! That is so cool! I wish that I was able to travel to Japan more frequently. I only went one time, and I want to go back. It is really cool that you are interested in Korean literature and cinema and want to expand to Japanese ones as well. There are many good movies produced by both countries! I hope you have fun in Japanese this year! -Selena
답글삭제Hi Selena san! Yeah so far I am really enjoying our class, especially thanks to your "nigiyakana" character haha. Btw do not forget to txt me back :D
삭제I really enjoyed reading this!! Also–I'm glad I clicked on your blog because it made me smile (:
답글삭제Thank you Aya San! Hope you have a good evening and see you tomorrow XD
삭제It is amazing that you have been to so many Japanese places and enjoyed the foods. I have only been to Japan for "business"-type of trips and didn't really have a chance to explore more.
답글삭제Irrelevant to Japanese, but speaking of movies and your hometown, I really like Korean zombie apocalypse movies such as "Train to Busan".
Glad you like dystopian genre movie from South Korea! Although I did not watched the movie so far, I am a fan of dystopian genre in general. See you tomorrow :)
삭제I'm super jealous of all the food you've had access to, in both Japan and Korea. I'm American-born but I always thought that it would have been nice to be from a place where it would only take a few hours to get to a different country with different culture and different food.
답글삭제Yeah I can tell that the best privilege that I enjoyed back in Korea was the travel distance to Japan! But I think the U.S. is also full of things to see and enjoy, not to mention there are variety of food that I can enjoy!
삭제Wow I wish I can take classes on Korean cinema so I can gain some insights on the "transitional turn" you mentioned. Also the name of your blog is just so kawaii. :D
답글삭제Haha thank you so much unknown san. I am not sure where these interests are taking me so far, but I might think more about this theme during my ma courses in Columbia:) Hope you also liked my cat Lulu's picture (which I posted below)
